Registering a domain name

Why do I need a domain name?
When you first connected to the Internet, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) probably issued you with an email address. Hypothetically, if your Internet Service Provider was Internet Plus Pty Ltd they would have issued your company Acme Toys with an email address. The email address would read as follows, acmetoys@internetplus.com.au
Although this address lets you receive email it has a number of disadvantages as outlined below:-
* Another company's name is incorporated in your email address, i.e.internetplus
* The email address is connected to your Internet Service Provider. Should your ISP go out of business so does your email address.
* If you wanted to change your ISP you would also need to change to a new email address.
The solution to this problem is to create your own independent email addresses. Creating   your own email addresses offers the following advantages:-
* Your company owns the email address.
* Your company's name features prominently on all your email addresses. This factor makes it easy for your customers to remember your company name.
* You have full control of all your email addresses including their creation and removal.
* Changing ISPs will not effect your email address.
To be able to create your own email addresses you need to register your business name on the Internet. This procedure is commonly referred to as 'Registering a domain name'.
The purpose of a domain name is similar to that of a street address or telephone number. The domain name directs customers to you via the Internet. The domain by itself is not your email or web address. However, the domain does form the base from which these addresses are derived.
For Example:
Our Company Name:    WebCentral
Our Domain Name:    webcentral.com.au
Our Web Address:    www.webcentral.com.au
Our Email Address:    sales@webcentral.com.au
